Report accepted as submitted with $11,595.26 in the checking account.
- Minutes
of the May 13, 2004 PABE meeting accepted as submitted.
Board of Governors
President Paul reported on the Board of Governors meeting:
- PBA
switched their checking account to Citizens Bank from PNC.
- Dues
collection for PBA has been changed to a “lock box” method through a
Philadelphia bank.
- Dues
invoice for PBA has been changed. Fran agreed to send copy to bar execs
via listserve.
- PBI Conference
Center in Philadelphia
will feature a “kiosk” so that Philadelphia
attorneys can access Incite (simplified version) and PBA website. Idea
being that this may attract attorneys to join PBA.
- Board
of Governors approved $100,000 for the PR campaign.
- PAC
Contributions – still needed, still appreciated by PBA especially personal
donations by individual attorneys
PBI
- Roger
Meilton reported that 2004 was a financially challenging year for PBI but
did include construction costs of the PBI conference center in Philadelphia.
- Attendance
in 2004 has been up.
CCBL
- 39th
Annual CCBL– Committee hopes to bring new ideas. Date is March 4-5th.
PABE will meet 8:30-10 on Friday March 4th.
OLD BUSINESS
Website
- Pat
Martin asked whether there was real need for website. Membership agreed
that moving PABE information to more visible location on PBA website may
make it easier to access.
- Jessica
Engel and Fran O’Rourke agreed to work together to fine-tune PABE info
available via PBA website.
HISTORY
- Liz
Price reported that history of PABE is completed and will be presented at
next meeting.
- Liz
also reported that PABE logo is also completed.
1. Stacy
Thomas (PBI) reported that PBI replays would be available on DVDs beginning January 2005.

PBI would like to partner with local bars to put the
local CLEs on PBI online.

PBI will continue to print yellow books.
CLE
Bridge the Gap
Dan Leverling and Katy Buggy reported on PBA CLE activity.
- Bridge
the Gap DVDs are in the process of being revamped to provide more
interactive opportunities for audience.
- Providers
are providing copies of materials on CD and printing out syllabus for
attendees to follow along.
- Some
bars are having senior lawyers participate in bridge the gap and others
have board of directors and judges participate.
New criminal procedures will require CLEs in specific areas.
6 hours per year beginning November 1st.
County Bar Services
Master calendar is being compiled for 2005. Local bars are
asked to submit their calendars to Art.
CCBL – Give Back
CCBL is subsidized by PBA. CCBL committee is asking for
sponsorship.
MOTION: Ms. Kittrell moved to allot $1,000 for the PABE to
become gold sponsor of CCBL. This was seconded by Ms. Price and the motion
carried.
PABE MEETING
- Ev
Sullivan suggested a speaker from Great Britain who is willing
to visit PABE at their CCBL meeting to overview the kinds of seminars he
can provide local bars.
- Membership
agreed to post his website on the listserve and to have membership respond
on appropriateness of his attendance at PABE CCBL meeting.
PRESENTATIONS
APM Systems
Owner Aleks Mednis provided overview of computer
system/network management specifically virus protection. His company provides
services via telephone and remote access to Montgomery County Bar.
PR TASK FORCE
- Task
Force members were present to give PR campaign update.
- PBA
purchased PR campaign from Virginia
for use for 3 years.
- Local
bars can use at no cost.
- Will
be emailed in PDF format from PBA.
- Appropriate
for billboards, newspaper ads, other advertising.
- Local
bars can put their own logo on the advertising pieces.
- No
other changes can be made.
- Task
Force is also considering working with Pa Community Colleges to develop a
3-6 week curriculum to take to citizens
- Looking
for local bars to participate in this people’s law school program.
CCBL
CCBL President Sam Miller announced the 3 awards available at
CCBL. Applications due in January.
PBF
Bar Foundation is looking for silent auction donations for
April 2005.
RETIREMENT
Pat Martin was presented with retirement gift from PABE and included a framed
certificate of appreciation along with golf certificate.
The meeting adjourned at 4:30 to a cocktail party in Pat’s
honor.
