REPORT OF THE PRESIDENT:

  • President Birdsall  asked for a minute of silence in memory of Eugene W. Lederer, Esquire, Executive Director Emeritus, Centre County Bar Association
  • Presentation in absentia - Dan Stark of Chester County – Art presented a clock for Dan because he is leaving his position in Chester County.  Art will make sure Dan receives his clock since Dan’s parents live near him.
  • The 2003 County Bar Dues Survey was presented. It was noted that some county bar dues reflect yearly subscriptions to the law journals.  This will be adjusted and new reports sent out.
  • See the PBA Zonegram for the notes on the PBA Board of Governor’s meeting held April 22, 2003.
  • 2004 CCBL Program:  Barbara Kittrell will be PABE’s representative to the CCBL on March 4-5-6, 2004 in Hershey
  • 2003 CCBL Report from Liz Price:  PBA told the CCBL committee the event is costing too much money; maybe local bars can sponsor material costs.  The registration was raised to $175 (Unit counties get a $50 discount).  PBA lowered the amount of money paid to the National speakers.  We don’t need entertainment in the Hospitality suite on Friday nights.

Ken Shear asked how the CCBL Conference leaders are chosen?  The CCBL has their own nominating committee and they look at diversity across the State.  Ken feels it is not responsive to the entire bar membership though out the State.  Art will pass his concerns along to the nominating committee.

  • The PBA is no longer giving PABE members free Bar Leader magazine.  The cost increase from the ABA was prohibitive.
